BIOGRAPHY: THE STAFFORDSHIRE  SENTINEL  Monday 19 March 1877   On Saturday there was an inquest on the body of EATON the engineman who lost his life in the recent boiler explosion at Berry Hill Colliery. Mr Wynne did not impute criminal negligence to any one but said the boiler had been negligently patched. The first fracture took place where the last patch had been put on. The jury returned a verdict of “Accidental Death” but recommended the use of Blowmere iron plates in future. Another Berry Hill fatality was inquired into at the same time. On Friday a collier while at work in the pit suddenly dropped down in a fit and died soon after. Verdict in accordance with facts.
